Segal Center 2024-2025 season | Véronique Claveau will play Céline Dion in a musical

A new production of the New York musical show Titanicstarring Véronique Claveau in the role of Céline Dion, will be on view at the Segal Center next fall.

Titanic is directed by Tye Blue who will direct Véronique Claveau and a cast of 13 other performers. The musical created off-Broadway in New York will be presented in English, as a Canadian premiere in Montreal, from October 27 to November 24, before going to the CAA Theater in Toronto in December. It is a co-production of the Segal Center for the Performing Arts and Mirvish Productions of Toronto.

The story begins when Celine Dion takes a guided tour of the Titanic museum and enchants the audience by performing iconic songs from her catalog and brings out famous characters from the film Titanic.

“I often had the chance to play Céline Dion in various sketch projects. But to play the Quebec icon in a real musical comedy is a real honor, especially in a show as hilarious as this one,” said Véronique Claveau in the press release from the Segal Center which also announced Thursday its other 2024 titles -2025.

Titanic had its world premiere at the Asylum Theater in New York in June 2022, produced by Eva Price. The show received critical acclaim and was an immediate success with audiences, necessitating its transfer to the Daryl Roth Theater in November 2022, where it continues to play to sold-out audiences. The production won three Lucille Lortel Awards, including Best Musical, the Off-Broadway Alliance Best Musical Award, the Dorian Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Production, and a Las Culturistas Culture Award.

Artistic director Lisa Rubin has put together her most musical season yet at the Segal. In addition to Céline, a tribute concert to Leonard Cohen will be on view from December 8 and two new Canadian musicals will also be created in winter and spring 2025.
