From the sky, the floods in Pas-de-Calais are very impressive. Gardens, fields and roads disappeared under water on Thursday January 4.
Like a huge swamp instead of a quiet little street where residents parked daily. In 24 hours, around fifty municipalities became unrecognizable. The greenhouses are surrounded, the crop plots drowned. Brimeux (Pas-de-Calais) is, Thursday January 4, an almost ghost village where only tractors can circulate. For the second time in two months, nearby rivers submerged everything.
Submerged communities
In Arques (Pas-de-Calais), it’s hard to believe that there was a large parking lot. A few kilometers further, the town’s music school is inaccessible. Blendecques particularly suffered, with nearly a meter of water in places. Panic sometimes took hold of these normally calm streets. A pond near a municipal campsite spilled everywhere. The aisles are almost indistinguishable. Retirees lived there all year round.
