The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, announced on Tuesday April 9 that he had asked the police prefect to “strengthen considerably” security around the match between Paris and Barcelona on Wednesday, after one “threat” of the Islamic State group in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League. PSG must welcome the Catalans to the Parc des Princes at 9 p.m. “We saw, among others, a communication from the Islamic State which particularly targets stadiums”assured the minister.
The terrorist organization had already called for “take action in sports venues” in a message reproducing the image “of a stadium, in this case the Munich stadium” in Germany, “ithere are barely ten days”, argued the Minister of the Interior. Who however insisted on the fact that “all sports can be affected”.
“It is obvious that, when it comes to an important moment like the Champions League for football, we are having a discussion with our partners”, that is to say the other countries which are hosting the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the Minister of the Interior further clarified.
