In order to stem the falsification of prescriptions, secure prescriptions will become mandatory from December 1st to obtain certain medications in pharmacies.
In French pharmacies, a secure, non-falsifiable prescription will soon be mandatory to obtain powerful painkillers, such as Tramadol or Codeine. “The three criteria are the blue ink, the watermark that can be seen through the original prescription, and the small square at the bottom right, where the doctor must write the number of lines prescribed.”explains Christine Bihr, pharmacist.
Increased safety for the delivery of these drugs, which can be dangerous in the event of an overdose or if their use is diverted. “There is a clear addiction to Tramadol and Codeine”the pharmacist also notes. Prescription falsifications are on the rise in France for opioid prescriptions. The National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM) wants to stop this trend. Secure prescriptions will be mandatory from December 1st.
