In Normandy, the Second World War is still very present in people’s minds. For the record, schoolchildren in Le Havre are currently recording the accounts of direct witnesses to the events. These meetings are often full of emotion.

“I must have been three, four years old, the first bombing that I remember perfectly. I still remember the sound of the bombers“. At 83, Yvette Souhaité is still moved to recall her childhood during the war. Fear, deprivation and destruction marked his life. Memories that she recounts today to children aged around ten. “It can lead them to understand the reign of fear, intransigence, violence”she believes.

This meeting is a chance for CM2 students. They may have their questions answered, such as: was there still leisure? The adults continuedto work? Denis Lefebvre has also agreed to testify. “I wanted to imbue them with what was happening in their grandparents’ time. Especially since the same thing is happening near us in Europe”he says. For the duty of memory, Saint-Jouin-Bruneval (Seine Maritime) recorded these testimonies. They will be archived for future generations.
