(Paris) Gaël Faye, Kamel Daoud and Olivier Norek are part of the second selection of novels for the Renaudot Prize unveiled on Thursday.
This selection includes ten novels, only two of which are written by women.
The selection of “essays” was reduced to six titles, including Valérie Abécassis’ account of the Hamas assault on Israel on October 7, 2023, which was not in the first. The rules of the prize allow you to include new titles at any time.
The Renaudot prize must be awarded on November 4, at the Drouant restaurant in Paris, just after Goncourt, as tradition dictates. Before that, a third selection is scheduled for October 24.
The Hamas attack resulted in the deaths of 1,205 people on the Israeli side, the majority civilians killed on October 7, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures.
At least 41,788 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli military campaign of retaliation that has devastated the Gaza Strip, according to the Hamas government’s health ministry for the territory.
