The French are less and less inclined to throw away old clothes that they no longer wear, because they resell them. So many clothes that we do not give to associations. The shortfall is therefore considerable for them.
Buying or reselling second-hand clothing with a simple click has become a habit for many French people. Specialized applications are successful growing, but it’s a nightmare for associations that have always lived off the second-hand market. “The donations we collect make it possible to support around forty people in integration”explains Florent Letoquarttechnical coordinator at Vetis. Today, their contracts are threatened by this change in donor habits. “There, it’s very damaged so people only give what they really don’t want anymore”notes Fabienne Massenyathe director.
Clothes are more often of poor quality or damaged. “The first consequence is a loss of earnings (…) therefore a danger probably at a certain moment of the economic model of the integration site, which is very fragile”continues the director. In second-hand resale shops, it is impossible to offer rare pearls to customers. The Emmaüs label has therefore decided to launch a new solidarity donation platform, in order to attract a new audience.
