Thousands of people gathered on Tuesday May 28 in Paris, for the second consecutive evening, to protest against the Israeli bombings on Rafah. Up to 4,500 people gathered at the height of the evening, according to police headquarters counts. Republic Square, in the heart of the capital, was packed with people and the statue in its center was decorated with Palestinian flags, with a large banner claiming: “Stop the genocide”. Isolated groups of demonstrators also roamed the streets of the 10th arrondissement, close to the square.

The French Jewish Union for Peace (UJFP) for its part displayed the slogan: “Jews and anti-Zionists, we are for equal rights”. The compact crowd chanted “Israel assassin, Macron complicit”, “We are all children of Gaza”, and “Israel assassinates the children of Palestine”. Flags of the radical left party LFI, the far-left party NPA, the Force Ouvrière union and the Palestinian Revolution organization flew among the crowd.

Similar gatherings took place in other city centers in France, such as in Marseille, where 2,000 people demonstrated in front of the Marseille courthouse (6th arrondissement) late Tuesday afternoon, Agence Radio France learned from the Bouches-du-Rhône police headquarters.
