Hundreds of Tefal employees demonstrated on Wednesday April 3 in front of the National Assembly, to demand the withdrawal of the plan to ban chemicals considered to be eternal pollutants.
On Wednesday April 3, employees of the SEB group banged on the stoves they manufacture a few meters from the National Assembly. They oppose a bill that threatens 3,000 jobs according to the leadership supporting the movement. Several hundred employees made the trip. “We are more than motivated to defend our jobs”, assures a demonstrator. The law wants to ban the use of PFAS. Very poorly degradable chemical compounds, considered eternal pollutants, which are found in particular in SEB group products, such as in the coating of their famous stoves.
Kitchen utensils, skis, textiles…
If employees assure that studies have proven that the substances they use are not harmful, environmental associations estimate that these substances pollute for hundreds, even thousands of years. They are contained in certain kitchen utensils, in skis, but also in several textiles. Some claim that PFAS would also have health consequences. The bill will be debated and voted on Thursday April 4.
