(New York) The NHL suspended Seattle Kraken forward Yanni Gourde for two games in connection with the assault on Mattias Ekholm of the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.
The incident happened Thursday, late in the third period. Gourde received a major penalty for assault on the play.
The Oilers prevailed 4-2, collecting their 12e victory in a row.
Gourde will miss games in Seattle against Toronto and Chicago on January 22 and 24.
Hockey player from St-Narcisse in Mauricie, Gourde has totaled seven goals and 19 points this season, in 45 games.
The Kraken have lost their last three games, after winning nine in a row.
