Remember to wash your hands well! The seasonal flu epidemic has spread to all regions of France, as well as Corsica and a wider part of Overseas France, Public Health France announced on Wednesday January 24. Bronchiolitis, which mainly affects babies, continues to decline. As for Covid-19, the virus is still actively circulating, but the decline observed for several weeks continues.
The week of January 15 to 21 saw a more intense circulation of influenza viruses “with an increase in positivity rates in town and in hospital. Activity in community medicine and indicators in emergency rooms were also increasing”, summarized the health agency in its weekly bulletin. In hospital, the number of visits to the emergency room for flu or influenza-like illness has increased significantly (+61% in one week), as has the number of hospitalizations subsequently (+55%).
In France, all regions are now grappling with the flu, Brittany and Normandy having in turn entered the epidemic phase. Overseas, Martinique joined Guyana and Guadeloupe in the territories fully affected by the epidemic. The only good news: Mayotte is already finished with the flu season.
