Searches were carried out at the home of a European Parliament employee of the European Parliament in Schaerbeek, commune of Brussels, as well as at his office at the European Parliament in the Belgian capital, announced the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office in a press release, Wednesday May 29 . A search was also carried out at the request of the Belgian investigating judge, “in the office of this employee at the European Parliament in Strasbourg”specifies the press release, “in close collaboration with Eurojust and the French judicial authorities”.

These searches are part “as part of a case of interference, passive corruption and membership in a criminal organization” and concern suspicions of Russian interference. The federal prosecutor’s office cites indications that “Members of the European Parliament were allegedly approached and paid to promote Russian propaganda via the Voice of Europe ‘news website'”. These elements prove “that the employee of the European Parliament in question played an important role in this affair”.
