Search for the Titan: Canada has spent more than $2.4 million

Canada has paid nearly $3 million for a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) plane to join the search for the Titan, according to CTV News.

The RCAF CP-140 Aurora took off from Nova Scotia shortly after Canadian authorities were notified of the Titan incident on the evening of June 18th.

Over the next three and a half days, the crew aboard the Aurora conducted a visual search and dropped gear in an attempt to pick up sounds from the missing craft.

According to a Department of National Defense spokesperson, the CP-140 Aurora costs $29,662 an hour to operate. The aircraft logged 82.5 flight hours, bringing the total to more than $2.4 million.

In addition, the 341 sonobuoys that have been used can cost more than $1,300 each, according to Ottawa. The mission to try to save the five passengers of the Titan therefore cost nearly three million dollars to Canadian taxpayers.

Recall that the CEO of OceanGate, Stockton Rush, the British billionaire, Hamish Harding, the French expert on the Titanic, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, the Anglo-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son, Suleman Dawood , lost their lives in the implosion of the aircraft on June 18.
