The Montreal Canadiens have agreed to a one-year, US$1.985 million contract extension to forward Sean Monahan.
The 28-year-old Ontarian was limited to 25 games last season due to a foot injury and a groin injury. He had six goals and 11 assists.
Monahan could have become an unrestricted free agent on 1er July. He spent last winter the last season of a seven-year contract, earning him a total of $44.625 million.
The Canadiens acquired Monahan from the Calgary Flames last summer. He also got his hands on a conditional first-round pick in return for future considerations.
The Flames’ 2013 first-round pick, sixth overall, Monahan has 218 goals and 261 assists in 681 career NHL games.
