Teaching: school teachers soon to be recruited from the undergraduate level?
(France 2)
Faced with an unprecedented recruitment crisis in National Education, Emmanuel Macron announced Friday April 5 that students with a bac +3 level will be able to become school teachers.
Make the teaching profession more attractive. Thanks to this reform, recruitment will be at bac +3 level and no longer bac +5. A student will be able to take the competitive exam from the bachelor’s degree, then be admitted to the master’s program. Visiting a school, Emmanuel Macron explained how this training works. “You will have a professional master’s degree (…) with, from the start, work with students, obviously under supervision”, said the president. The master’s degree would be paid and the competition would be accessible from the license level in order to attract more students to a neglected profession.
The concerns of the unions
According to teachers’ unions, the level of recruitment could drop. “If they are demanding events, the level will be good”, explains the president of the SNALC, Jean-Rémi Girard. A specific license will be created. It will be intended for future nursery or primary school teachers. Not necessarily a good solution according to the unions, who denounce a discounted license. This year, more than 3,100 faculty positions have not been filled. This reform should come into force next year.
