It’s a back-to-school season with almost all expenses paid. For the second year in a row, school supplies will be offered to children from primary schools in Lille, Hellemmes and Lomme. “Each school year, with the purchase of supplies, families must make a significant financial effort, writes the city of Lille in a press release. The supplies, sometimes excessively expensive, are sources of discrimination and inequalities within the school itself.
A measure at more than 700,000 euros
This measure of “solidarity and equality” will cost 770,000 euros : more than 600,000 euros for Lille, nearly 100,000 euros for Lomme and 70,000 euros for Hellemmes. The city of Lille encourages teachers to choose supplies “with a low environmental impact” to meet the challenge of ecological transition.
