school children will not be able to learn to swim this September

The little Guérétois are still deprived of a municipal swimming pool, closed since October 2020 due to imminent danger. And it is not ready to reopen since the municipality has abandoned the idea of doing the work, which is far too expensive. However, the children of the commune must learn to swim. For this, the town hall has invested in the purchase of three mobile pools. They were delivered welland they will be installed in Cher-du-Prat, on one of the outdoor petanque grounds (because there is direct access to the changing rooms and showers).

the problem today is filling ! Because of the drought, a decree from the prefecture of Creuse prohibits any filling of swimming pools, whether public or private. So the mayor of Guéret, Marie-Françoise Fournier is waiting “the green light from the prefecture. And it will only give it if there are enough rains to fill our water tables. We won’t have an exemption, and we won’t ask for it because we can’t ask households to make an effort and fill us up with a pool“.

No authorization for the moment, and even if it arrived in the next few days, it would be too late to meet the fixed schedule. The first schoolchildren to benefit from swimming lessons in these pools were those of Cercle Cerclier. They should have started swimming in mid-September, but it takes two weeks after filling for the water to be at the right temperature. ! Too late then. The city councilor hopes that the current good weather will continue to shift classes to October. Otherwise, they will be postponed to the end of the school year, at the same time as the lessons planned for the students of Langevin and Jean-Massé.

The pupils of the Prévert school will continue like last year to go to the swimming pool at La Souterraine (choice of the school).
