Faced with rising prices and flight energy costs, school canteen companies are issuing an SOS to mayors in a forum. They are demanding an increase in their contract by the end of the year.

Faced with rising prices, school catering companies are sounding the alarm. In question, the increase in the prices of raw materials: +12% in September. With each meal, companies in the sector therefore lose money. They demand a raise or the possibility of breaking contracts. “If it doubles, if it triples, you eat more, how do we do that?”, said a father to his child.

According to the national collective catering union, food represents 60% the cost of a plate. For the association of mayors of France, communities cannot yet increase the price of canteen meals. “To think that cities have a lot of money to meet their demand or that we can systematically pass on the cost of their increase to families, it’s not so simple because families are also in difficulty”says Gilles Pearlof the Association of Mayors of France (MFA).
