Death of Hassan Nasrallah: scenes of jubilation in Israel
According to Benjamin Netanyahu, the death of Hassan Nasrallah marks “a historic turning point” and “advances the return of hostages held in Gaza”. Israelis also reacted, knowing that Saturday is also the day of weekly demonstrations against their Prime Minister.
Saturday September 28, the announcement of the death of the leader of Hezbollah caused scenes of jubilation on an Israeli beach, which two days earlier was the target of a drone strike. Nearly a year after the October 7 attack, the Israeli population welcomes the elimination of Hamas’ faithful ally. Same atmosphere in the streets of Jerusalem, where residents hope that this event will mark a turning point in the war.
But just hours after the celebrations, sirens sounded in Tel Aviv. Civilians took shelter from missile fire from Yemen. For security reasons, gatherings of more than 1,000 people have been banned in some Israeli cities, particularly in Tel Aviv, where weekly demonstrations bring together tens of thousands of people opposed to the government.
