Cam Atkinson had a goal and an assist as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Washington Capitals 2-1 on Saturday.

Atkinson had the game-winning goal late in the first period. Arriving more or less in time to counter a two against one, Conor Sheary came close to intercepting a pass from Scott Laughton. The puck still went to Atkinson, who scored his only goal of the month. The 32-year-old American is still his team’s top scorer this season, with 18 goals.

Claude Giroux also scored for the Flyers, who were snapping a six-game losing streak. Recovering from an eye infection, Carter Hart blocked 27 shots in the win. He was unavailable in the Flyers’ last two games.

After 11 away games (upper body), Joel Farabee was instrumental in Giroux’s goal. TJ Oshie scored the goal for the Capitals, who have lost their last two games. Ilya Samsonov blocked 20 shots for Washington, which hosts Toronto on Monday.
