Tage Thompson helps Sabers triumph at home

Tage Thompson broke the tie at 6:15 in the third period and the Buffalo Sabers won 4-3 at the expense of the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

Rasmus Dahlin provided a goal and two assists.

Sound 15e net represents the highest for a Sabers defenseman since 1997-98, when Alexei Zhitnik had the same total.

Casey Mittelstadt added a brace for the Sabres, who still have slim hopes of making the playoffs.

Buffalo is four points from goal with four games to go.

The team will play again Monday night in New York, against the Rangers.

Young Devon Levi made 32 saves, improving his record to 3-1.

Sebastian Aho (his 35e), Seth Jarvis and Jesper Fast scored for Carolina.

Antii Raanta stopped 26 shots for the Hurricanes, who will be the visitors in Ottawa on Monday night.
