Defenseman Moritz Seider plays key role in Wings win

Thomas Greiss made 32 saves to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers for the second time in four days on Saturday.

Rookie defenseman Moritz Seider scored an important power-play goal in the third period en route to a third victory in their last four games.

Tyler Bertuzzi, Filip Zadina and Michael Rasmussen also hit the mark for the Red Wings. Michigan team captain Dylan Larkin had three assists.

Keith Yandle rattled the ropes for the first time this season for the Flyers while Scott Laughton had a goal and an assist. Carter Hart stopped 20 shots.

The Flyers lost 6-3 to the Red Wings on Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Bruins flawless against Senators

The Bruins (27-16-3) thus put a two-game losing streak.

Jeremy Swayman made 30 saves en route to a Boston Bruins 2-0 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

Trent Frederic and Curtis Lazar hit the target for the Bruins.

The Bruins (27-16-3) are on a two-game losing streak. Swayman earned his second shutout of the season and fourth of his career.

At the other end of the ice, Matt Murray blocked 35 shots for the Senators (16-24-4).

Murray has stopped 77 of 80 shots he has faced in the last two games. The Senators were shut out 2-0 on each occasion.

Canucks beat Leafs 3-2

Thatcher Demko stopped 51 shots and led the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

JT Miller and Brock Boeser each had a goal and an assist for the Canucks.

Juho Lammikko scored the game-winning goal for the Canucks (22-21-6) late in the second period. Bruce Boudreau’s squad have won three of their last five duels.

Auston Matthews and Ondrej Kase both scored on the power play for the Maple Leafs (30-12-3) who posted back-to-back regulation losses for the first time since October.

Sheldon Keefe’s men fired more than ten times in each engagement, including 24 times in the second.

Petr Mrazek stopped 21 of 24 shots in a losing cause. The Maple Leafs followed a six-game winning streak with two straight losses.

The Jets have the upper hand over the Predators

Blake Wheeler scored two goals and three assists to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-2 victory over the Predators in Nashville on Saturday night.

Mark Scheifele contributed to the task with a goal and two assists while Kyle Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois had the other winners’ goals. Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves and Josh Morrissey had two assists.

Mikael Granlund and Matt Duchene replied for the Predators and Juuse Saros stopped 38 shots. The representatives of the city of country have lost three of their last four games.

As the game was tied 2-2 midway through the third period, Predators defenseman Mark Borowiecki was assessed a major elbowing penalty and a game misconduct for hitting Evgeny Svechnikov in the head.

Wheeler and Dubois made him pay dearly for his gesture by scoring two power play goals to claim the victory. Wheeler did it again in an empty net.

After one period, the Predators led 2-1 and had a perfect 17-0-0 record this season when they took the lead after 20 minutes. This record has now suffered a first setback.

Wild win against the Hurricanes

Kevin Fiala and Frederick Gaudreau each had a goal and an assist as the Minnesota Wild hung on to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2.

In the third period, the Canes almost played a bad trick on the Wild when Andrei Svetchnikov scored two goals. The locals were hot, but still held on.

Kirill Kaprizov scored the Wild’s other goal as Cam Talbot blocked 37 shots. The Minnesota squad has suffered just one regulation-time loss in its last 12 games.

Talbot has won his last four starts allowing just five goals. For his part, Fiala also has a good streak having amassed ten goals and eight assists in 14 games.

Svechnikov had scored 11 goals in 17 games. He struck twice at 1:21 to bring the Canes within a goal of equalizing, but Talbot didn’t flinch.

Frederik Andersen blocked 24 shots for the Hurricanes. Andersen is 14-2-1 in his last 17 starts. He allowed only 34 goals during that streak.

This is the first time these two teams have faced each other in over 26 months due to all the scheduling constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Blues win 5-1 over Blackhawks

Oskar Sundqvist scored a goal and set up another in a 5-1 St. Louis Blues victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.

David Perron, Dakota Joshua, Vladimir Tarasenko and Jordan Kyrou rounded out the scoring for the Blues, who are 6-0-2 in their last eight games against the Blackhawks.

Ville Husso had a fairly quiet evening at work, making 15 saves. He nevertheless distinguished himself on a few occasions, notably by robbing Patrick Kane thanks to a superb move at the end of the first period. He also stood up to a one-timer from Seth Jones in the third.

Dylan Strome scored for the Blackhawks as Marc-André Fleury stopped 26 shots. Chicago lost a fourth time in five outings.

Brayden Schenn got an assist on Perron’s first-period power-play goal to extend his one-point streak to four games.
