Artemi Panarin tied the game late in the third period and scored the shootout winner to give the Rangers a 3-2 victory over their New York rivals, the Islanders, on Saturday.

The Rangers set a team record with a 54e victory this season.

Igor Shesterkin made 33 saves, Braden Schneider scored shorthanded and Vincent Trocheck also scored in the shootout.

Brock Nelson scored twice in the second period to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead.

Ilya Sorokin blocked 40 shots for the Islanders.

Panarin sent everyone into overtime when he found the back of the net with 4:17 left. It was the 48e striker’s net of the season.

The Islanders are 8-2-1 in their last 11 games.

Early in the second period, Schneider scored shorthanded to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
