Avalanche win 5-3 over Sabers

Mikko Rantanen scored, then assisted on Alex Newhook’s game-winning goal in the third period as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Buffalo Sabers 5-3 on Saturday.

Nathan MacKinnon also had a goal and an assist. JT Compher and Nazem Kadri also scored for the Avalanche, which extended their road win streak to seven.

Jared Bednar’s squad have posted a 24-2-2 record since Dec. 6.

Darcy Kuemper stopped 29 shots and improved the team record with 18and successive game without defeat in regulation time (16-0-2).

Tage Thompson scored his first hat trick for the Sabres. Jeff Skinner had two assists.

Dustin Tokarski made 31 saves in the loss.
