John Gibson blocks 44 shots to secure victory for Ducks

Rickard Rakell and Troy Terry found the back of the net and the Anaheim Ducks, despite giving up more than twice as many shots on goal as they did, earned a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators Saturday afternoon.

Goaltender John Gibson made 44 saves for the Ducks (23-16-8), who have won four of their last five games.

The Senators (13-21-4) outshot 45-20 but had to settle for Tyler Ennis’ net in the first period.

For the Senators, goaltender Anton Forsberg had a good game and saved 18 pucks. However, Terry’s goal in the third period made the difference.

Terry received a pass from Ryan Getzlaf then, from the top of the face-off circle, fired a quick shot that beat Forsberg on the far end at 3:42.

The Senators put heavy pressure on the Ducks defense the rest of the game, but Gibson proved invincible.

Once again, the game was presented without spectators in the stands, but the void was even greater for the Senators

The latter, once again, had to play without three of their best players, namely Drake Batherson, Josh Norris and Erik Brannstrom, out of training due to injuries.

Rakell scored the game’s first goal at 6:19 of the first period. Ennis fired back 97 seconds later.
