Alex Newhook helps Avalanche win on his birthday

Alex Newhook marked his birthday for the second straight season and the Colorado Avalanche beat the St. Louis Blues 4-2 on Saturday.

Evan Rodrigues, JT Compher and Matt Nieto also hit the mark for the Avalanche, who have won seven of their last eight games.

Logan O’Connor set the table for his team’s two goals while Alexandar Georgiev saved 26 pucks for the Colorado team.

The Avalanche had won their last six games before losing 5-3 to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. The defending Stanley Cup champions have recovered, however.

The Avalanche could have reinforcements as defensemen Josh Manson and Bowen Byram are expected to return after the All-Star Game break.

Ivan Barbashev and Brayden Schenn replied for the Blues, who suffered a fourth loss in a row. Jordan Binnington made 27 saves.
