In Italy, on the island of Sardinia, farmers have to face swarms of locusts that devour all the fields in their path. On the spot, the concern is alive.

It has been one of the most feared natural wounds for millennia. In Sardinia (Italy)grasshoppers devour fields and crops in their path. Farmers bear the brunt of these swarms whose movement is uncontrollable. “On my land, they first attacked the olive leaves. Now they are destroying my vegetable garden. I was told that there were many but, at that point, I did not think”Explain Peppino Utofarmer.

Grasshoppers are present by the millions. 30,000 hectares of fields have already been destroyed on the island of Sardinia, and nearly 250 tonnes of plants are swallowed up every day. From now on, the insects are advancing towards the towns in the center of the island. Already, they colonize the sidewalks ofottana (Italy)a town of 2,500 inhabitants. To avoid greater losses, some farmers harvest their fields early. This proliferation of insects is more and more regular, due to the high temperatures and the drought.
