Threatened with extinction, corals are a centerpiece of marine biodiversity. Four months a year, Sandrine Treyvaud, a resident of Toulon, is at their bedside in the Saintes archipelago, in Guadeloupe.

A former diver, Sandrine Treyvaud quickly became passionate about corals. True living ecosystems at the bottom of the oceans, they contain 25% of marine biodiversity, but are threatened with extinction due to human behavior. Four months a year, the Toulonnaise takes off for the Caribbean and Guadeloupe. With her, volunteers, from all over France and previously trained in the Var, take turns every week.

We are a bit like nurse-gardeners“, laughs a volunteer. Together, they pick up each branch in apnea before gluing them back together by hand on the beach. “We have a maximum hour from the moment we start“, informs them Sandrine Treyvaud who shows meticulousness to save as much coral as possible.
