Sandra O’Connor named co-general director of the Festival TransAmériques

A trio of women now runs the Festival TransAmériques (FTA). Sandra O’Connor is appointed co-executive director and administrative director of the FTA.

She succeeds David Lavoie and will take office on June 28, to work on setting up the 2025 edition, with Jessie Mill and Martine Dennewald.

After working at the newspaper See, Sandra O’Connor has had a 20-year career in the cultural and community sector; notably in management positions within organizations such as TOHU, the Regroupement québécois de la danse, Culture Montréal, Moisson Montréal, the Monument-National and the National Theater School of Canada. In 2020, she joined the office of the Minister of Tourism of Quebec, where she is responsible for the “sustainable development in tourism” file. Since October 2022, she has been a policy advisor on mental health and homelessness to Minister Lionel Carmant.

“The excellence of the FTA’s programming and its international reputation make it a unique, unmissable event. It is therefore a real privilege and pride for me to join the team,” declared Mr.me O’Connor in a press release.

The FTA is carrying out an organizational reshuffle this spring and is returning to a model of general management shared between administrative management and artistic direction. Thus, Martine Dennewald will become co-general director from June 2024. Artistic direction remains ensured by the tandem formed by Martine Dennewald and Jessie Mill.

The 18e edition of the TransAmériques Festival will be held from May 22 to June 5.
