Kane was likely to return to the game on Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils.
If Kane is unclaimed, he is expected to report to the San José Barracudas in the American League on Tuesday. It is not known when he will be able to play.
Will, who took over from general manager Doug Wilson on medical leave, added that putting Kane’s name on waivers gave the team flexibility while waiting to find out what to do with him. .
