San Francisco 49ers | Quarterback Brock Purdy will soon undergo elbow surgery

(Santa Clara) Quarter of 49ers San Francisco’s Brock Purdy will undergo surgery on his right elbow this Friday, a source told The Associated Press.

The procedure will be performed in Dallas by Dr.r Keith Meister, according to this person who requested anonymity since he is not authorized to comment on the situation.

Purdy was originally scheduled for surgery on Feb. 22, but the surgery was delayed due to excessive inflammation in his right elbow. Meister met Purdy again last week and gave the go-ahead for the proceedings.

Purdy tore an elbow ligament in the first offensive push of 49ers in the 31-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Championship game.

He is expected to be fully recovered after six months which calls into question his availability for the start of the next season.

Purdy went from last drafted to starter in a Conference Championship game in his impressive first season with the 49ers. He won his first seven starts before that setback against the Eagles.

Purdy’s injury will allow Trey Lance, the Niners’ 2021 first-round pick, to work with the No. 1 unit on offense. Lance started last season as a starter, before suffering an ankle injury in week two.

Lance had to undergo a second surgery in December. He has just started throwing balls again.
