Star slugger Manny Machado has agreed to a new 11-year, $350 million contract that will keep him with the San Diego Padres until 2033, according to a person familiar with the deal.
The source spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because Machado has to pass a physical exam.
The deal was first reported by ESPN.
Machado said after this season he plans to walk away from the 10-year, $300 million deal he signed in 2019 with the Padres.
Machado finished second in the Nationals Most Valuable Player poll last year.
San Diego also has key players Xander Bogaerts, Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis in its ranks. The latter can return to the game on April 20, after an 80-game suspension in connection with doping products.
The Padres will open their regular season on March 30 at home against the Colorado Rockies.
