Samsung’s recent Galaxy Unpacked event unveiled new smartphones, including the Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy Edge, while emphasizing software innovations powered by Galaxy AI. Key updates to the Galaxy Health app include enhanced sleep tracking using SmartThings data, new metrics for mental health and exercise, and an antioxidant index for dietary advice. These features are set to launch in 2025, with more details anticipated at the next Galaxy Unpacked event in summer.
Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked Event: A Focus on Innovation
During the recent Galaxy Unpacked event held on Wednesday, Samsung showcased an impressive lineup of new smartphones, including the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, Galaxy S25 Ultra, and the sleek Samsung Galaxy Edge. However, the event wasn’t solely about smartphones; it also highlighted significant software advancements driven by Galaxy AI, particularly features for the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Ring.
Enhanced Features in Galaxy Health App
At the conclusion of the presentation, Samsung introduced exciting updates for its health app, Galaxy Health. This app is set to receive a variety of new features and performance scores, complementing its existing capabilities. Since last summer, Samsung has provided users with an energy score and a sleep score, along with AI-generated wellness tips tailored to individual health and recovery data.
During the event, Samsung announced plans to enhance the sleep score further by incorporating data from SmartThings devices within the home. Additionally, three new features focusing on mental health, nutrition, and exercise were revealed. A notable addition is the “vascular load” index, designed to track the daily progress of users’ exercises, similar to training load metrics from other tech giants like Apple and Google. This index will also consider recovery and dietary habits.
Moreover, Samsung aims to improve dietary management by introducing an “antioxidant index.” This innovative feature will utilize a pressing sensor to determine the beta-carotene levels in the body, enabling Samsung Health to offer personalized dietary advice for better health.
Currently, Samsung lacks a dedicated sensor to measure beta-carotene levels, suggesting that this feature may be reserved for future devices, potentially including the anticipated Galaxy Watch 8.
On the mental health front, Samsung Health will allow users to log a daily wellness score ranging from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent). The app will also incorporate mindfulness exercises, meditation, and deep breathing techniques to support relaxation and overall well-being.
As for the release timeline, Samsung has announced that these exciting new features are expected to roll out sometime in 2025, with more details likely to emerge during the next Galaxy Unpacked conference scheduled for summer. This event often serves as a platform for Samsung to unveil new watches and provide updates on its health app.
