The Italian media spoke of him as the oldest patient suffering from premature aging. Sammy Basso, suffering from progeria (or Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome), died at the age of 28, many public figures lamented on Sunday October 6, saluting his courage in his fight against the disease.

Born on December 1, 1995 in northern Italy, Sammy Basso studied at university in Padua and specialized in 2021 in molecular biology, with a thesis seeking to clarify the relationship between inflammations and progeria, according to the daily transalpine La Repubblica.
