SAM foundry employees are still struggling

The 330 employees made redundant from SAM are preparing a very special Christmas. They will be this evening and tomorrow at noon (like every evening and every noon) gathered for a festive meal. The employees of the Aveyron foundry will be mostly together, to support each other while the judicial liquidation of the SAM was pronounced at the beginning of December.

Supra-legal premiums

Employees who will come for the most part with family, in one of the factory buildings to show that the fight continues. For a month, they occupy the factory to prevent the equipment from being sold and to demand supra-legal premiums from Renault. (A supra-legal indemnity is an indemnity paid to the employee, greater than that required by law in the context of a dismissal. It is negotiated by the employee with the employer.) The three shifts (night, morning and evening) take turns at the times they occupied when the factory was running.

We also come back to see faces again, so as not to lose this thread that we all created together.

Employees who, all or almost, use the word mourning. They are together, in the process of mourning a business to which they were proud to have belonged. Benoit says: “We can’t accept the situation. So, coming back here every day, we meet the same faces. And it makes us good to see the doors still open. What makes a pang in my heart is when we show our colleagues around, to see an icy, cold workshop, it’s hard. We also come back to see faces again, so as not to lose this thread that we have all created together for several years. is reuniting with a family. It’s important for morale, it’s important for us. It helps us to cope. ”

The foundry workers also welcome workers from other struggling factories in the region. This Thursday, they notably organized a debate with former Molex employees, the electrical component factory closed in Villemur-sur-Tarn in 2009 by its American owner.
