For its 10th edition, the LACMA Art + Film Gala honored the work of Steven Spielberg and artists Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, creators of the portraits of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Presented by Gucci, the evening took place at the Los Angeles County Museum under the direction of Leonardo di Caprio and LACMA Trustee Eva Chow on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
This great evening also inaugurated two exhibitions around portraits, those of the Obamas as well as a retrospective on “Black American Portraits”. Many personalities were present for this great evening dedicated to the arts, like Salma Hayek and her husband François-Henri Pinault – who is recovering from her bereavement -, Paris Hilton and her fiancé Carter Milliken Reum, Jeff Bezos (boss Amazon) and Lauren Sanchez or Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian. We could also find Maggie Gyllenhaal and her little brother, Jake Gyllenhaal.
Leslie Mann and her husband Judd Apatow, Sophie Hunter and her husband Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Capshaw and her husband Steven Spielberg, Jimmy Iovine and his companion Liberty Ross were among the couples of personalities to walk the red carpet. Other personalities like Lil Nas X, Jodie Turner-Smith, Elle Fanning, Billie Eilish, Eva Longoria, Miley Cyrus, Hailey Baldwin, Camilla Morrone, Diane Keaton or Betye Saar were present.
Like all previous editions, all the profits from the LACMA gala are injected into exhibitions presented at the Los Angeles Museum and are used to acquire works, finance arts training as well as film screenings. In the past, LACMA had already honored the works of Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick or even Betye Saar and Catherine Opie.
