Publishing houses often use film adaptations to attract new readers. This has been the case since the end of June with the release of the film “The Count of Monte Cristo”, starring actor Pierre Niney.
In a Parisian bookstore, the masterpiece by Alexandre Dumas, the count of Monte Cristois selling like hotcakes. “Since the film was released at the end of June, our sales have increased tenfold.”assures Elodie Murzi, head of Ici Librairie, Monday July 15. Sales are boosted by the film of the same name, directed by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, with the leading actor Pierre Niney, which already has 2.5 million admissions in theaters, only fifteen days after its release.
Adaptation to film is often an added value that publishing houses use to attract new readers. At 180 years old, the count of Monte Cristo could be the best seller of the summer in bookstores: 62,000 books have been sold, and a fourth reprint is already underway.
