Cognac producers can be smiling. In 2021, sales exploded by more than 16%, boosted by exports. Because Americans and Chinese love this eau-de-vie made from wine, a typically French product. In Charente, we are now organizing to meet demand.
An Amber colored eau-de-vie, gold for Cognac producers. Last year, sales increased by more than 30% in value and over 16% in volume. So the profession is getting organized. The challenge, in the Charente vineyards: increase the vine surfaces to continue to produce a sufficient stock. “We must continue to obtain new plantations, of the order of 3,000 hectares per year”, believes Florian Morillon, Head of Trading at BNIC (Office National Cognac Interprofessional Association).
And foreign demand has never been so strong, with the Americans in the lead, with ever more orders, followed by China, which is growing even more strongly, 55.8%. An important source of income, since Cognac is exported to more than 97%, with continued growth, which makes professionals optimistic. New trends have been confirmed since the crisis of the Covid-19 : consumption at home, purchases by Internet, a rise in range, which are added to the mode of the cocktail.
