Real estate sales fell 17% at the start of 2022. The rise in credit rates and inflation could explain this decline.

In the first quarter of 2022, real estate sales fell by 17%. In the north of Paris, an agent real estate seeks to sell a two piecesa 33 m² to renovate, at the price of 316,000 euros. That’s a property that we should have already sold since we’ve had it for sale for a few weeks“, explains Sylvain Noualletdirector ofORPI Nouallet Immovable. In Île-de-France, sales fell by 26.8% in February 2022. In the rest of France, they fell by 6.1%.

Inflation, the uncertain economic context and the rise in credit rates explain this general decline. When you were already a little ric-rac with rates at 1.1% and 1.2%, inevitably when you increase the rates to 1.5%, it gets much more stuck“, according to Maël Bernier, spokesperson for Best Rate. Loan rates could continue to rise in the coming months.
