Sale of the Writers’ House | UNEQ will propose a moratorium

New development in the saga on the future of the Union of Quebec writers (UNEQ). Its board of directors will invite members to vote on two resolutions proposing a moratorium on the sale of the Writers’ House, and also the establishment of union dues.


These two resolutions will be submitted to the debate and vote of the members at the extraordinary general meeting, which will be held by videoconference on March 29. A notice of meeting was sent to members on Tuesday.

Sensitive to the many and passionate reactions of its community, the Board of Directors decided to submit this decision to a vote of the members while adding a moratorium of 18 months to give the Board of Directors time to study the feasibility of other acquisition projects whose mission is to promote literature or the profession of writer and writer, ”reads the press release.

“This resolution takes into account the desire clearly expressed by many writers who, although understanding the weight of the house on our finances, wanted to maintain its literary vocation,” declared President Suzanne Aubry.
