Salaberry-de-Valleyfield | Woman in her sixties dies in collision

A woman lost her life Friday in an accident involving two vehicles, which occurred in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, in Montérégie.

The Sûreté du Québec reports that emergency services were called to the scene of a collision on Route 132, also known as Boulevard Hébert, in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield around noon.

According to initial information gathered, the driver of one of the two vehicles, which was traveling westbound, veered out of her lane and into oncoming traffic, for reasons that are still unknown, explains the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). She thus caused a head-on collision with a heavy vehicle.

The SQ reports that emergency services had to carry out an extrication operation in order to successfully remove the injured driver.

The woman, aged around sixty, was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A police officer trained in collision investigation and SQ investigators are currently on the scene to determine the causes and circumstances of the tragedy. The SQ specifies that Route 132 is closed to traffic for an indefinite period in order to ensure the integrity of the scene and the safety of the police officers.
