(Montreal) A man in his fifties died after falling from a tree on Saturday in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, in the Montérégie region.
The accident occurred in the afternoon. Emergency services were called around 3:30 p.m., said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis-Guy.
“According to initial reports, a man in his fifties was busy cutting branches before he fell. He was taken to hospital because he reportedly suffered serious injuries that could put his life in danger. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital,” reported Mme Marquis-Guy in the evening.
Hydro-Québec equipment located near the incident was damaged, so much so that the power had to be cut off as a preventive measure, the public relations officer said.
An SQ investigator and a forensic identification technician were dispatched to the scene to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding the event.
An investigation is underway.
