Sainte-Thérèse: one seriously injured after an altercation at the exit of the bars

A man in his twenties was seriously injured in an altercation that occurred overnight from Friday to Saturday in Sainte-Thérèse, in the Laurentians.

The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. at the exit of the bars at the corner of rue Turgeon and rue Blainville Est. An altercation that would have broken out between several individuals, causing one person to be injured.

The latter, a man in his twenties, who suffered serious injuries had to be transported to a hospital center, where there would be no fear for his life.

“An object would have been used in the aggression”, indicated Luc Larocque, assistant-director of the Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville (RIPTB).

Although a knife is visible on the scene, the police still cannot confirm that it is the object in question. No suspect has yet been identified or arrested, mentioned Mr. Larocque.

Investigators are busy collecting testimonies and analyzing the scene in order to find out the causes and circumstances surrounding this event. The sirens sounding in the night have also awakened some local residents.

“The streets were all blocked off, I really don’t know what happened, but I got woken up to lovely weather.

Since then I haven’t been able to sleep because I don’t know what’s going on. I didn’t know if they were looking for someone in the area,” said a neighbor interviewed by TVA Nouvelles.

The latter also said that she heard the sirens “screaming from all sides, all sides” for nearly an hour. This usually quiet neighborhood was talked about last week because of an arson attack that occurred in the Slice Gang pizzeria which is close to the scene of the attack.

Santa Teresa Festival

The sector also welcomed a large number of people on Friday evening as part of the Santa Teresa Festival.

However, the police believe that there is no link between this attack and the event that is taking place all weekend in downtown Sainte-Thérèse.

“It could be easy to make a connection with the Santa Teresa festival, but when it happened, the festival-goers were little or not present. So there would be no link, ”explained Luc Larocque to the QMI Agency.

The festival is expected to resume as scheduled at 3:30 p.m., he added.

“Our team has contacted the police department and there is no connection to the festival. We will be more alert today, security is already present throughout the perimeter of the festival”, specified the direction of the festival in a message sent to the QMI Agency which recalls that the event occurred at the outside of its site.
