The collision occurred around 11:45 p.m. Sunday evening on Highway 30, eastbound.
“According to initial information, a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction in the west direction, in the east bay, collided with another vehicle with three people on board,” explained Sergeant Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, who is the porter. word for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The man who was behind the wheel of the vehicle which ended up in the opposite direction was transported to the hospital center, where he was later pronounced dead. He was alone on board.
The three occupants of the other vehicle also had to be hospitalized. A woman in her nineties was still in critical condition Monday morning, while the other two injured suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
This accident forced the closure of Highway 30 eastbound for a good part of the night, as officers from the SQ and the Richelieu–Saint-Laurent intermunicipal police force went to the scene.
A police officer trained in collision investigations conducted an analysis of the scene. The reason why the driver of the first vehicle ended up going the wrong way will still be the subject of an investigation, but the SQ was able to confirm Monday morning that there was no criminal element in this case.
