Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines: COVID-19 outbreak at the Regional Reception Center

Seven inmates from the same area tested positive for COVID-19 at the Regional Reception Center, a prison located in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, in the Laurentians, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC ).

The authorities indicated that measures have been put in place to “minimize the spread of the virus in the establishment”.

“Contact tracing is ongoing and testing for COVID-19 is available to inmates and staff within the facility. CSC is currently using rapid tests to help detect positive cases more quickly and take action accordingly, ”CSC said in a statement.

The COVID-19 vaccine is still available to inmates who wish to receive it in all federal correctional facilities.

Due to this outbreak, prison authorities temporarily suspended family visits to the Regional Reception Center. During this period, detainees will, however, be able to communicate with their relatives by videoconference or by telephone.

CSC says it started vaccinating inmates last January. To date, 81% of inmates are fully immunized, and 85% have received at least one dose.

What’s more, as of November 15, all visitors are required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination before entering a federal prison.
