“Saint-Tropez” and “champagne showers”, has Kad Merad got a big head?

They met in 1991 while working on Yes FM and since then, they have never really left each other. Since they crossed paths with a certain Jean-Luc Delarue who changed their career on TV by offering them the show “The last 30 minutes“, on France 2Kad Merad and Olivier Baroux, aka KDO, have had a string of successes.

“We kept our feet on the ground”

First with the cult “Big show” on Comedy!, in 1999, which enabled the crazy rise of the comedy duo. And to our colleagues from Paris Match, Kad Merad explains that the star system never went to their heads. He specifies : “Big head, us? We kept our feet on the ground. We could have toppled over but, between Olivier’s mother and my parents, things were going straight. And we don’t have time for Saint-Tropez and champagne showers, we work too much“.

Over time, between TV and film releases, and solo projects, Kad and Olivier have always found each other – in 2003, they released “But who killed Pamela Rose?“at the cinema, then in 2012,”

and finally in 2016, they launched a special show: “C’KDO“. Regarding these meetings, they also explain to the weekly: “It’s not a need, it’s an obligation!” And Kad Merad tenderly admits: “Of all the people I’ve met, he’s the person I most want to work with. You didn’t know that, did you?”

“There is no jealousy, no malice

With Julia Vignali’s husband, Olivier Baroux also admits: “There is no jealousy, no malice. We know that we don’t have to seduce each other, to please each other, we come from the same place”. A pair who went through the difficulties of “overwhelming environment, very hard”, what is cinema. And besides, the star of “Choristes”, and “Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis” assures that all this is thanks to his friend. He tells him: “Together, we are stronger. Even if we don’t do everything together, knowing that we can count on each other has kept us going until now.”
