Saint-Pierre and Miquelon placed on red alert for risks of ice

Caution for residents of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. The archipelago is placed on red alert for the risk of ice, Thursday March 7, by Météo-France. It is also placed on orange alert for the risk of snow and on yellow alert for strong winds. From late Thursday afternoon, rain and snow precipitation will become icy.”warns the forecaster in his bulletin. “Precipitation continues throughout the night from Thursday to Friday, and even until early morning tomorrow Friday.”

“Ice accumulations are significant and could reach and exceed 2 cm of ice on the ground (3 to 4 cm possible on the coldest surfaces)”, continues Météo-France. The precipitation will be replaced by snowfall on Friday, which will be “temporarily strong at the end of the day and evening”. They won’t calm down “only at the end of the night from Friday to Saturday”, and will end Saturday morning. These snow accumulations “may reach and exceed 30 cm”, “even approaching 40 cm”concludes Météo-France.
