Shots were fired Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of an IGA supermarket located in the borough of Saint-Léonard. The suspects involved have fled, but authorities are not reporting any injuries at this time.
It was around 1:30 p.m. that the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said it was called to the premises of the establishment, located at the corner of boulevard Langelier and rue Bélanger, in Saint- Leonardo.
The initial 911 call was about “heard gunshots” in the neighborhood and around the business. Arrived on the scene, the first patrol officers identified casings on the ground, confirmed agent Julien Lévesque, spokesperson for the Montreal police.
However, no injured person was located. The suspects involved in the shooting fled before police arrived. Police sources also said Thursday that the shots were fired by people riding in two separate vehicles.
One thing is certain: a security perimeter has been erected to let the investigators do their work of collecting clues. A forensic identification technician and a dog handler were also requested on site.
Video tapes from surveillance cameras should also be viewed by investigators, and potential witnesses to the scene could be encountered in the coming hours.
