Saint-Laurent | Two pedestrians in critical condition after collision

A pedestrian was hit by a driver who then caused a lamp post to fall on another pedestrian on Sunday afternoon in the Saint-Laurent borough.

This dramatic series of events occurred around 4:35 p.m. at the exit of a business located on Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse, not far from the intersection with Rue Hébert.

A 28-year-old driver then hit a 19-year-old pedestrian before skidding, for a reason still unknown, and hitting a lamppost, according to what witnesses told the Montreal Police Department.

The lamppost then fell to the ground and struck a 23-year-old man who was walking on the sidewalk, injuring him in the upper body.

The two pedestrians, who presented serious injuries when first responders arrived, were transported to a hospital in critical condition. Witnesses were also treated on the spot for nervous shock.

As for the driver, he was not injured and will be met by the police. Criminal charges could eventually be filed against him, it was reported.

A perimeter has been set up and investigators will go there to try to establish the facts around this tragic accident.
