Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu | The BEI will investigate an event that left one dead and two injured

(Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu) A man died while a woman and a teenager were seriously injured on Wednesday night during a succession of violent events in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, in Monteregie.

Since officers from the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Police Department (SPSJSR) were implicated in the facts, it is the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) that will have to shed light on what happened.

According to preliminary information communicated to the BEI, around 2:05 a.m., a man would have contacted the 911 emergency telephone exchange to indicate that he had just committed the irreparable.

The police then went to the individual’s residence located on rue du Biat, in a residential area of ​​Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police were reportedly confronted by a man armed with a knife. The BEI reports that shots were fired and that the 48-year-old man involved was hit by at least one projectile.

He was pronounced dead a little later in a hospital.

Inside the residence, officers found a woman and a teenage boy, both seriously injured. They were taken to hospital.

Six BEI investigators were assigned to investigate the circumstances of the event. The parallel investigation was entrusted to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which will also act as a support police service.
